This is a captain’s log of sorts. I’ve had so many people inquire about my pottery lately – specifically, if I’m still making it, if my business is still a thing, if I’ll have new work soon, etc. It’s been touch and go since I started classes for a second college degree (Nursing, RN) in January. The truth is that I don’t expect people to be able to afford fine art when most of us can barely afford groceries and car payments in this economy. Being an artist is a job that you choose for the heart & the joy & the passion of it – not necessarily for a sizable & reliable yearly income – and I knew that, when I got my BFA. To answer everyone’s burning questions: Half Full Creative will always be a thing, as long as I am alive & breathing. This company was my dream for many years, and it is still my dream; I invested in my kiln & wheel, and as long as I have those things, I am able to continue to make pottery. What I don’t have an excess of these days, is time – I spend most all of my time currently being a mother to my little girl, and pursuing this nursing degree. I’m hopeful that being an RN will give me a flexible schedule with a bit more stable income – so that I may continue to spend a few days every week in my studio.

As it stands right now, I desperately miss making things – and I’m looking forward to having next spring & summer off from classes. You can expect a good deal of new work from me then, as I will have plenty of spare time for studio work without Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology, Statistics, etc taking up my thoughts and days. I’ll also be opening up one on one throwing classes in January, if you’re local to Chattanooga & would like to learn how to make things with me; I’ve taught a lot of art in my life, and it brings me great joy to be able to share techniques with other people. Feel free to shoot me a DM on Instagram! (@dashofsunshine)

Be good to one another, and to yourselves. Remember what I always say: people need other people. Please be kind & show love abundantly. Keep your head up, and your hearts open…and keep seeing the mug as Half Full. <3
